About us:
Pork Storks Australia (PSA), part of Apiam Animal Health, is looking for an Operations Manager, with an animal husbandry or farming background and management experience to join the team based at our Boar Stud in Lethbridge, Victoria.
Pork Storks Australia is the leader in pig semen processing and delivery systems in Australia, operating two state-of-the-art pig semen collection facilities that encompass superior health, environmental control and quality management systems.
Pork Storks is part of Apiam Animal Health, a leading rural and regional provider of veterinary services across Australia.
About the position:
Reporting to the Intensives Business Manager, you will be charged with ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the stud run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Supervising, assisting and mentoring the PSA team through a hands-on approach across all aspects of the operation including auditing, facilities, animal husbandry, collection / processing / packaging semen and interacting with the logistics team.
- Assisting in staff recruitment, training, development, and performance reviews.
- Overseeing tenders, acquisitions, approvals and ordering of consumables.
- Liaising with suppliers and contractors regarding equipment maintenance and building concerns.
- Provide input into the financial management including formulation of budgets, analysis of monthly P&L and approval of all expenses.
- Handling customer queries and resolving issues.
- Regular communication and monitoring of the dispatch system with logistic supervisors.
- Liaising with vets regarding management of boar treatments, vaccinations, and quarantine.
- Overseeing compliance across all OH&S, including building standards and biosecurity directives.
- Access to technical and business management mentors as required, and opportunity to collaborate with QLD PSA site.
About you:
- Experience in livestock handling and animal husbandry
- Experience in the swine industry is advantageous
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Proven staff leadership and management skills are essential
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and work collaboratively across teams
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to set priorities and achieve objectives whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy
- High level communication and interpersonal skills
- Current Australian Driver’s license
