Opportunity for a sea-change to Tasmania’s North-West

6-month veterinary nurse position in our Smithton Clinic

Small animals only in a great clinic and part of a leading animal-health industry

Smithton Vets is a supportive team consisting of 9 veterinarians, 3 farm technicians and 4 dedicated nursing staff with a range of veterinary experience. You will be working in a modern, spacious, purpose-built clinic.  We have all the usual small animal equipment including vet-tome (dental game changer!), in house lab, bone plating gear and digital radiography.

Smithton is located in the northwest of Tasmania, offering beautiful, rugged scenery all around. There are beautiful beaches and natural areas to explore. It offers all the usual amenities of a good-sized regional town. It is the perfect place to have an adventure and see a different part of Australia.


About the Position:

  • We are looking for a permanent full time veterinary nurse to cover a 6-month leave period from

July 2024- January 2025.

  • We will also consider a shorter period of time within those dates- reach out and let us know your availability.
  • Above award wage offered

We are looking for an experienced veterinary nurse to implement their high standards of patient care and have the capability to fulfill all general nursing duties including surgery, hospital and consulting roles in our small animal clinic.  

This is a hands-on nursing role, you will need to have the skill set and confidence to place IV catheters, set up fluids, monitor anesthetics and love all things nursing.

What you’ll need to succeed:  

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or Veterinary Technician Degree is highly regarded but we are also very keen to hear from any experienced nurses.
  • 3+ years' experience with well-rounded nursing skills.
  • A can do attitude to come in and help out for a 6 month period
